Tasty, the Chinese born and raised twins Jung Daeryong and Soryong, debuted in 2012 with the sweaty, shoulder popping, EDM racket of ‘You Know Me’ (너 나 알아) which, besides sending new fans into a spasm of “which is which?”, gave them a standout moment in what was a very busy rookie year. Strange then that after a strong start it took almost 12 months for them to be seen again.
Their return, sporting Infinite H on lyric duties, saw them drift around the edges of a New Jack Swing sound for ‘MAMAMA’, which became full blown on ‘Day ‘n Night’, pushing the vocals into the forefront over their enviable dance abilities. The speed of style transition, particularly for such a new group, was unpredictable but nothing about Tasty has played by the K-pop rule book. They debuted at the ripe old age of 24 after jumping the JYP ship to Woollim, were trained in the States rather than South Korea, and their personal history – until recently – was shrouded in a fog of evasive answers and guesswork.
It’s been five months since their last comeback and no doubt their fans are getting itchy for their return so why not collar Daeryong for a Q&A session in between slinging up selcas on his Instagram and performing with SM Entertainment’s big guns? We take the twin known for his “bunny teeth” – seriously, this is an actual identifier as opposed to his brother’s choppers – and demand answers out of him for ten minutes. Well, almost.
‘Day N’ Night’ was your most recent comeback but what have Tasty been doing since its promo cycle ended? Are you back in the studio? We’ve been touring with SNSD and Super Junior M, we went to Macao and Beijing together and opened up for their concert. Other than that we have been working in the studio.
‘Spectacular’, ‘MAMAMA’ and ‘Day N Night’ saw Tasty really move from where the sound was with the debut. Was it always planned that you head in that New Jack Swing direction or did it come about by accident? We always wanted to try a new style and it became ‘MAMAMA’ and ‘Day ‘n Night’.
Are you more comfortable with this style or with hard electronic beats, like on ‘You Know Me’? We’re more comfortable with songs like ‘You Know Me’ than ‘Day ‘n Night’!

    The Nike x PPP Collection will be launched on 26 April. Not that far from now. Love the sneakers and high top one already! PPP are Pain O Chokolat, Pigalle Paris and Pompom. So classic basketball collection!

    HERMÈS: MAN ON THE MOVE

    This man is a mutant. In the X-Men sense of the term. His superpower? The ability to magically change his clothes. Oh to have this superpower. Sigh. Imagine the money you’d save. One quick snap of your fingers and, BAM, you’re head-to-foot in Hermès. Bored of your outfit mid-morning? Snap again and, BAM, you’re wearing an entirely different ensemble. But skip to 0:23 to see my favourite feature of this superpower. The man can switch clothes with someone by bumping into them. Just imagine the fun that could be had at Fashion Week. I’d be making a beeline for Anna dello Russo, that’s for sure.

    #WANDERLUST - IN THE SEA

    - Until now this part of the sea is the only part where I dare to go for more than 10 meters away from the beach. Calm sea and clear sea water in Nusa Dua beach, golden sandy beach such a bliss. The 30 degree celcius temperature which I have a love hate relationship in my trips, surely I will miss it so much.

    I think the ultimate beach look will be as minimalist as possible.

    RAAFH MENSWEAR WINTER 2014

    That bold pitch black feathered bird with its strong beak. He travels at free will, feeling at ease and able to survive in every place his travels take him. From remote corners of the world until the beating heart of the big city. 

    This winter collection of Raafh works around structured Japanese woollens. Cotton that has been developed in an Kimono-fabric specialised factory, used for shirting, and sharp suiting. All combined with Swedish sheepskin leather used for our handcrafted Lammy coat. The collection itself has been made by the hands of the tailors from Leads in England and Porto in Portugal.

    #WANDERLUST - IN THE MIDDLE OF PADI PADI

    - One thing in our travel bucket list is escaping the crowd. After the past couple hectic and busy years, all we want is some moments for us two. So we decided to visit Ubud again, the higher land of Bali. When searched for ‘home’ to stay, I stumbled upon the Ubud Padi VillasThe booking was no hassle at all, I love the Paypal payment option from the Ubud Padi Villas. And thank you Mega Putra and Eka for such a nice contact before our stay.

    Ubud Padi Villas has 7 villas with each own swimming-plounge pool facing the traditional rice fields where you also can see people are working in the fields in a traditional way. If you like it is possible to have Rice Field & River tracking tours. I did it a lot when I was a kid and lived near rice fields in Java.

    Warm welcome was ready for us with, “Welcome to your vacation home!” when we arrived after a nice ride on our private car shuttle from the airport and a ride down a small alley on a buggy car to the villas

    "Home", the word only makes all distances gone. Feeling directly that you are not in a hotel but it might be your own villa. The word "Home" is also fulfilled with friendly and very helpful staffs.

    The warm welcome followed with refreshing welcome drinks and of course a foot massages. We delayed our massage until after we settled down in our villa and after our late lunch (flight was delayed, so not cool!). For our stay, we also booked our 60 minutes traditional Balinese body massage to have in your own room or the gazebo next to the pool. We stayed in two rooms, first with gazebo and second not. The weather is too warm to have the massage on the gazebo, so I had mine in an air conditioned room. I am relaxed now, especially after a warm bath and shower in our open air bathroom, clean and spacious one.

    We spent most of our time sun-bathing and swimming in our private pool. In the morning, delicious in-the-room breakfast are delivered on the time. All we need to do is just fill in the breakfast form and write down the time. Love this place so much that I almost can not stop Instagram-ing everything (find more pictures of my two nights escape here).

    For a cultural trip, Ubud is one of the best part of Bali with a lot of dance performances and tours to different parts of the island which you can book directly by Komang (one of the receptionist), Balinese women we met a lot during our stay. We didn’t do any tours or saw any dance performances, we did before. So we enjoyed our private pool villa to the fullest. We did a small walk to the Ubud center, just to visit the stores and Starbucks (I know!). Nice thing is that the villa provides all the guests with free shuttle with private cars to the Ubud center. And for the last evening of our stay, we had a romantic candle light dinner for two. A gazebo in the central garden, full of candle lights and flowers. So this villas in Ubud are also great place for your honeymoon destination.
